This past Sunday, my husband, mother-in-law and I went on a marathon furniture shopping session that took all day! Good thing we already researched all of the pieces we wanted to buy– otherwise we literally would have been there until the store closed! Furniture shopping, in my opinion, is not exciting at all, so I was glad my mother-in-law came with us because she actually made it an extremely fun event! Our first stop of the day was to her house in fact to pick her up and before we left, she gave us a tour of her backyard, which was full of the cutest animals ever! She is an animal lover and advocate, and I love being able to see all of her little creatures!
In addition to cats and birds, she has a bunch of chickens!
And perhaps my favorites are her bunnies! They look like stuffed animals!
After that we spent hours shopping, and managed to get all of the stuff on our list. By four o’ clock, we were all starving and finally had the chance to go to a restaurant near the furniture store that I have been dying to visit– Not Your Average Joe’s!
Not Your Average Joe’s is a chain that reminds me a lot of California Pizza Kitchen, in terms of type and quality of food. I am obsessed with CPK, but there are none in Rhode Island or nearby Massachusetts, so I am extremely happy Not Your Average Joe’s serves as a suitable substitute. At that time of day, the restaurant was fairly empty, so our food came out relatively quickly, despite the fact our waitress was not that pleasant.
My mother-in-law warned us the bread and oil was epic, and she was right. We went through baskets of their focaccia bread and oil with red pepper flakes and parmesan– our only complaint is our waitress kept forgetting to bring us more when we asked, and seemed annoyed when we reminded her.
We just ordered a bunch of stuff to share, and the food, like I said, it came out fast! First up, we shared an order of fresh veggie summer rolls, stuffed with rice noodles and veggies served alongside a spicy peanut sauce. It was very tasty and the peanut sauce was nice and spicy.
Their hand-cut fries were incredible– also very fresh!
I ordered a side waldorf salad that was huge for a side salad and incredibly delicious. It had romaine, grapes, apples, candied nuts, smoked mozzarella and a creamy sherry dressing. All the salad components worked well together and it was so large I could not even finish it.
Finally, we had a veggie pizza with spinach, onions and peppers. The pizza is excellent! The crust itself tasted of garlic and parmesan and was so full of flavor. Once again, all of the ingredients tasted so fresh!
I am extremely impressed with this restaurant, and though the food was spectacular, especially for a chain. As a vegetarian, there were so many options still, it was kind of overwhelming, which only means I need to go back to try some other things!
We went to one more store before heading home around seven. Since I had a combined lunch and dinner, I thought a little (or big) ice cream would be a nice way to end such a fun day!
Do you find things like furniture shopping fun? I find that fun only if the company is good!
