Last Sunday, my husband and I hosted our first official family get together at our new home. But this just wasn’t any old celebration– we were ready to reveal the gender of our baby to the whole crew!
Our day started with a trip to LaSalle Bakery in order to pick up our special “gender reveal” cake! Rhode Islanders, LaSalle Bakery is awesome, and I highly recommend them for any of your cake or pastry needs. When I ordered the cake by phone, they assured me it would be perfect, and it was!
Later that afternoon, I started the party prep. We had ten family members coming over, so I kept it simple with just a few apps and lots of pizza. I had a platter of carrots and hummus,
a big old pile of kettle chips (both jalapeno and plain),
and pizza! We had a pepper and onion pizza, a pesto, tomato and mozzarella pie, and an unpictured pepperoni pizza too!
My final touch was putting a bunch of baby boy and baby girl stickers on the table. As soon as they walked in, I made my family pick a team of what they thought I was having. Seven picked boy, and three picked girl!
Here’s my mom, declaring she thought Baby B was a boy!
Once we chowed down, it was finally cake time! Here’s the beautiful masterpiece! In case you can’t read the print, it said “He or she. . . open to see!”
My husband got some great action shots of me cutting into the cake as our families looked on eagerly.
It took me a minute, but I finally got the first piece out of the cake! Based on the frosting color inside the cake, my sister celebrated her victory in choosing the right gender!
Here’s a great pic of the rest of the fam’s reactions. Cheering definitely commenced!
So, without further delay. . . Baby B is a . . .
Finding out my little babe was a girl was one of the best moments of my life. All along, both my husband and I had been picturing a little girl, so needless to say, we are ecstatic! Despite the fact most of the fam thought it was a boy, I could tell they were all overjoyed that Baby B is in fact a girl! It will be the first little girl in our family, since my sister has two sons!
I broke out the celebratory Hershey’s kisses!
And before long, it was time for some gifts for the babe!
My mother-in-law is the best ever! She brought Baby B a new book (which was on my own lists of books to buy the babe!).
And, she came equipped with 25 girl outfits too! (Don’t worry, she had 25 boy outfits in her car as well in case Baby B was a he!).
Here are some of my favorites!
Regardless to say, our party was a smashing success! It was such a fun way to reveal the news to our families (and to you!).
Have you ever been to a gender reveal party? What sorts of creative things did you witness?
I am not very creative, so I just kept it simple with the stickers, cake and kisses!
