I feel like I say every week is monumental in some way, but I can’t help it because it seems there are so many significant baby-related things that happen each week! Week 20 was huge for one obvious reason– it marked the halfway point of my pregnancy! As soon as 20 weeks hit, I realized the rest of my pregnancy would speed by and that I have to enjoy and savor every single moment of it.
I also feel like a lot changed for me physically for me, and I got a lot done! I feel pretty good about my baby preparations and almost have to pace myself so that I don’t get too ahead of myself. For example, it’s so tempting just to go and buy everything I need for the baby myself, just because I am so eager to be prepared, but at the same time, I know I have a lot of time still and that there is no way I can possible afford to buy everything in one shot. Also, my wonderful sister-in-law and mother-in-law are planning a shower for me in December, so I know I will receive many thoughtful gifts then.
Anyway, I have a lot to share about week 20, so let’s get it going. . .
Baby’s size: Baby B is about 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — about the size of a banana! I also read somewhere that at 20 weeks, the baby is the size of a small cantaloupe!
Weight gained: As far as physical changes, I think I have entered the weight gain zone finally! I am supposed to be gaining about a pound a week, and this week, I am up a solid 4 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight. I definitely have a bump, and when I wear tight shirts, it is obvious I am pregnant. I still can get away with hiding the belly with blousy shirts, but to be honest, I have no desire to hide it. Also, as you read about later this post, I have no need to hide it at work anymore!
Exercise: One 3.2 mile walk last Saturday.
– My SI joint pain is so much better! In fact, I haven’t walked with a limp all week, and it hurts a lot less when I sleep. I am so hopeful that this pain goes away permanently!
– This is probably tmi, but it is such a common pregnancy symptom, I have to include it! I feel “backed up,” which I read is a result of the digestive tract slowing down.
– I still get full super fast and am not ever that hungry.
– I *think* I am feeling flutters that may be the baby. Either that, or it’s gas! Everything I have read about feeling those first movements says that they feel like gas, so honestly I can’t tell.
– I feel energized! I am motivated to do so much more after work– even more than I used to when I wasn’t pregnant!
Emotional breakdowns: None! I in fact am so much more mellow than I normally am. My husband even had to travel for work this week, but I was perfectly fine by myself.
Food aversions: None, and thankfully, I have been really enjoying roasted fall veggies this week.
Food cravings: I had pizza both on Saturday and Sunday of last week, so I finally got my fill. I haven’t craved anything in particular otherwise, but boy did that gender reveal cake taste good. I am kind of glad I don’t crave things like sweets or salty foods because I enjoy eating my normal, healthy diet.
Maternity Clothes: Take two happened this week, and it was more successful than my first shopping trip. I went to Old Navy one day after work, and tried on a ton of things. I ended up actually buying a handful on non-maternity shirts that actually look maternity-ish (I guess that flowy/blousy style is in now!). I also bought a few solid maternity short and long tees to wear under other shirts. I also purchased a bunch of non-maternity leggings that I think will grow with me, at least for a few months.
Gender: A lovely baby girl, which is just what I pictured!
Big Moment of the Week: On Friday, our school had its big homecoming pep rally, which means regular classes don’t really resume as normal. I was hanging out with a bunch of students, when a student I had two years ago stopped by to say hello. Out of the blue, she asked when I was having kids. I asked why, wondering if she would was the first to notice my expanding belly! She just said a lot of her younger teachers already had kids, and was just wondering if I was going to. At that point, I couldn’t lie, and told her I would be having a kid much sooner than she probably thought! The whole class kind of gasped and quickly caught on– I finally told them about the pregnancy! It was the last class of the day, but considering I work at a high school, I know that by the time I get to work today, all my students will know! I can’t wait to get student reactions today! Now I can finally show off my bump!
Looking Forward To: Slowly buying things for the babe. Oh, we also are going to be working on the nursery over the next few weeks.
Baby Items Purchased: A ton! I basically went through my registry (which isn’t public yet) and went to Babies R’ Us to buy a bunch of the smaller items so I could take them off the registry. I ended up buying a lot: I picked up more sheets, changing pad liners, hooded towels, some burp cloths, and some waterproof pads, among other things.
Gifts received: As stated in my gender reveal post, I got a bunch of adorable outfits from my mother-in-law. I also got lots of flowers and plants this week because it was my birthday on Monday! Also, a close friend of ours offered us their nursery rug, which they couldn’t use due to their baby’s allergy, that is just adorable. We are going to see if it fits in our room before we agree, but it is so generous for them to offer it because it is so cute!
All in all I had a really wonderful and fantastic week!
