Baby B: Week 35 Recap

If you read last’s week recap, you may remember the week was almost a little too hectic.  Fast forward to week 35 and it was quite the opposite experience– I had an extremely relaxing, low-key week where both baby and I were feeling just fine!  I have to thank mother nature for that too– we had a surprise snow day on Wednesday, which gave me the opportunity to just stay home, catch up on the DVR and just rest!

I really have no big stories to report for this past week either!  Last Saturday and Sunday were totally relaxing, and my work week slid by smoothly.  Again, the surprise snow day was a blessing– I was able to do some odds and ends around the house, cook a bit, and just hang out on the couch.  It was the ultimate mental health day and made the rest of the week a breeze.

Since I don’t have many good stories to tell, let’s just focus on Miss Baby B!

Baby’s Size:  According to Babycenter, Baby B is the size of a honeydew melon this week, at over 18 inches long and 5 and a quarter pounds.  Her basic physical development is now complete and now she just needs to put on weight!

Weight gained:  According to my latest weigh-in, I am up about 13.5 to 14 pounds, which definitely has me increasing at the suggested rate of a pound a week.  I actually had a doctor’s appointment this past Friday, and while I (not the baby though) am measuring on the smaller side, she said it was fine because the baby is growing and overall, my fundal measurement is increasing steadily each week!

Exercise:  Hubby and I took a 40-ish minute walk up and down our street (which has a lot of fun window shopping).  To be honest, I don’t see much formal exercise in my future over the next four weeks.  I am fortunate though that my job keeps me very active– teaching in a high school keeps me on my feet for most of the day!

Symptoms:

– Still waking up wide awake in the middle of the night more often than not, but it really isn’t impacting my day-to-day function, so I don’t mind!

– Joint and nerve pain has been minimal this week, and I am so grateful for that!

– Still having a tired back by the end of the work day, but it hasn’t bothered me as much this week because I have been able to rest a lot after work.

– Due to having more veggie-filled dinners this week, my digestion has made a noticeable improvement!

– I am still chugging water like a champ and I also still have super dry skin.

– Fortunately, I am still avoiding swelling and stretch marks but I don’t want to jinx myself, so let’s just say I am extremely grateful for that!

Emotional breakdowns:  None!  I am still feeling pretty calm!  Even my students in one of my classes commented on how they have never seen me get upset during this pregnancy.  If students notice that, than I will say I am doing pretty well.

Food aversions: I am not averse to anything in particular, but food is still not as exciting to me as it usually is.

Food cravings:  Again, nothing in particular, although I did make myself a huge pot of Crockpot red Thai curry which I have been happily slurping up for dinner this past week.  I have also been loving roasted carrots and cauliflower this week.

Maternity Clothes:  Still mixing up maternity and non-maternity wear.  I am actually pretty happy with my wardrobe these days and feel I definitely have enough to get by on for the next month.

Big Moment of the Week:  I had the always welcome opportunity to hear baby’s heartbeat once again on Friday.  She’s consistent if anything, always with a 140 beat per minute heartbeat.  I also have had the chance to really focus on her movement this week and it is constant!  I love it!  On the baby gear front, hubby installed the car seat, which to me was a big moment because it is a sign she is coming sooner than later!

On My Mind This Week:  I have been spending a lot of time reading up on the final weeks of pregnancy as well as the first few weeks of baby’s life.  I downloaded the Nursing Mother’s Companion on my IPad and have been reading that.  I have also been watching youtube videos on things I have never done before, like swaddling a baby and giving a baby a sponge bath!

Looking forward to:  My last ultrasound tomorrow!

Baby items purchased this week: I bought my last big baby-related item this week– a Medela Pump In Style Breast Pump and hands-free pumping bra.  I won’t start pumping for at least few weeks after she is born, but since it was on sale and I had some rewards dollars at Babies R’ Us, I went for it!  I do plan on building a stock of milk as early as I can so that miss Baby B can spend a few hours at a time with the grandparents without me being around after the first month or two of her life!

Baby Outfits:  I only bought one outfit this week– a St. Patrick’s Day outfit since I anticipate she’ll be here by then.

Other Preparations:  I started her baby book this week and actually ordered some prints from my phone so that they could go in her book.  I also read the manual for her car seat.  Like I said, I have been re-reading my books on infant care and nursing.  My hospital bag is now complete except for my coming home outfit, certain toiletries and snacks.

I am officially on a countdown now that it is under 30 days until my due date.  I just keep imagining her in my arms or on my chest every time I lie down on my couch, and I really cannot wait until she gets here!  I am also on a countdown until my last workday.  I could literally just work for the next week, or up to 10 days after that depending on how I feel.  No matter what, I have no more than fifteen workdays left period, and that’s only if I am feeling ambitious!
